I wrote a custom connector that sends alert updates to my trouble ticket system to autoclose tickets when a monitor returns to a healthy state. The alert update method has an overload where you can pass in a connector object as a parameter. When the overload method is used, the alert bookmark is not moved and the alert updates are not sent through the connector. I don't use email notifications, but I imagine they would be similar.
