**Set Theory free pdf by Author Unknown**

This introduction to modern set theory covers all aspects of its two main general areas: classical set theory including large cardinals, infinitary combinatorics, desriptive set theory, and independence proofs starting with Goedel's proof around 1938 foll...

**Set theory for the working mathematician free download by Krzysztof Ciesielski**

This text presents methods of modern set theory as tools that can be usefully applied to other areas of mathematics. The author describes numerous applications in abstract geometry and real analysis and, in some cases, in topology and algebra. The book be...

**The higher infinite: Large cardinals in set theory from their beginnings free download by Akihiro Kanamori (auth.)**

The theory of large cardinals is currently a broad mainstream of modern set theory, the main area of investigation for the analysis of the relative consistency of mathematical propositions and possible new axioms for mathematics. The first of a projected ...

**Set Theory. An Introduction to Independence Proofs free epub by Kenneth Kunen**

Paperback. Many branches of abstract mathematics have been affected by the modern independence proofs in set theory. This book provides an introduction to relative consistency proofs in axiomatic set theory, and is intended to be used as a text in beginni...

**Descriptive Set Theory pdf free by Y. N. Moschovakis**

Now available in paperback, this monograph is a self-contained exposition of the main results and methods of descriptive set theory. It develops all the necessary background material from logic and recursion theory, and treats both classical descriptive s...

**Axiomatic Set Theory pdf free by Gaisi Takeuti, Wilson M. Zaring (auth.)**

This text deals with three basic techniques for constructing models of Zermelo-Fraenkel set theory: relative constructibility, Cohen's forcing, and Scott-Solovay's method of Boolean valued models. Our main concern will be the development of a unified theo...

**Classical descriptive set theory free pdf by Alexander S. Kechris**

Descriptive set theory has been one of the main areas of research in set theory for almost a century. This text attempts to present a largely balanced approach, which combines many elements of the different traditions of the subject. It includes a wide va...

**At the Crossroads: Librarians on the Information Superhighway free download by Herbert S. White**

White's previously published articles and speeches (most presented after 1989) identify and address critical issues that range from library education, funding, and leadership to technology, ethics, and burnout. Although often delivered with humor, White's...

Every mathematician agrees that every mathematician must know some set theory; the disagreement begins in trying to decide how much is some. This book contains my answer to that question. The purpose of the book is to tell the beginning student of advanced mathematics the basic set theoretic facts of life, and to do so with the minimum of philosophical discourse and logical formalism. The point of view throughout is that of a prospective mathematician anxious to study groups, or integrals, or manifolds. From this point of view the concepts and methods of this book are merely some of the standard mathematical tools; the expert specialist will find nothing new here. Scholarly bibliographical credits and references are out of place in a purely expository book such as this one. The student who gets interested in set theory for its own sake should know, however, that there is much more to the subject than there is in this book. One of the most beautiful sources of set-theoretic wisdom is still Hausdorff's Set theory. A recent and highly readable addition to the literature, with an extensive and up-to-date bibliography, is Axiomatic set theory by Suppes.
